A community centre is the heart of every community so it should allow all users feel welcome and at ease. My community centre design aims to tackle the issues affecting the ageing population in Orkney, by having communal spaces play a part in caring for them. The design brings together on one site, functional spaces that welcome and address the various needs according to a community demography. Doing this maximises the generational experience on site, and creates social opportunities to combat mental illness, alienation, and depression among the ageing population. On site facilities include A café, fitness centre, Library, Seniors and children day-care and seminar/meeting rooms.
The community centre is located along the edge of the peedee sea in Kirkwall, the islands capital.
